About the company

Netflix, Inc.

Netflix, Inc. is an American media company founded on August 29, 1997, by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in Scotts Valley, California, and currently based in Los Gatos, California, with production offices and stages at the Los Angeles-based Hollywood studios and the Albuquerque Studios. It owns and operates an eponymous over-the-top subscription video on-demand service, which showcases acquired and original programming as well as third-party content licensed from other production companies and distributors. Netflix is also the first streaming media company to be a member of the Motion Picture Association. Netflix initially both sold and rented DVDs by mail, but the sales were eliminated within a year to focus on the DVD rental business. In 2007, Netflix introduced streaming media and video on demand. The company expanded to Canada in 2010, followed by Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2011, the service began to acquire and produce original content, beginning with the crime drama Lilyhammer. The company is ranked 117th on the Fortune 500 and 219th on the Forbes Global 2000.

Market action

A concise summary of the latest filing, transaction, or market-moving item.

Netflix Inc. reported a stronger second quarter for the period ended June 30, 2026, with revenue and profit rising from the year-earlier period, though operating margin narrowed slightly as technology, development, sales and marketing costs grew faster than revenue. The quarterly report, filed July 17, covers Netflix’s financial results rather than an insider trade or discrete securities transaction; accordingly, it does not report Form 4-style transaction codes, insider share sales, option exercises, or vesting details. For the three months ended June 30, 2026, Netflix generated revenue of $12.560 billion, up $1.481 billion, or about 13%, from $11.079 billion in the second quarter of 2025. Operating income rose to $4.193 billion from $3.775 billion, an increase of $418 million. Net income increased to $3.401 billion from $3.125 billion, up $276 million. Operating margin was 33.4%, compared with 34.1% a year earlier, a decline of 0.7 percentage points. For the first six months of 2026, revenue totaled $24.810 billion, up $.
