About the company

Spotify Technology Sa

Spotify is a Swedish freemium music streaming service provider founded in April 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. As of March 2026, it was one of the largest providers of music streaming services, with over 761 million monthly active users comprising 293 million paying subscribers. Spotify is listed on the New York Stock Exchange in the form of American depositary receipts. Spotify offers DRM-protected audio content, including over 100 million songs and over 7 million podcast titles, from record labels and media companies. Operating as a freemium service, the basic features are free with advertisements and limited control, while additional features, such as offline listening and commercial-free listening, are offered via paid subscriptions. Users can search for music based on artist, album, or genre, and can create, edit, and share playlists. It offers some social media features such as messaging, creating profiles, following friends, shared playlists, and creating listening parties called "Jams". As of December 2022, Spotify is available in most of Europe, as well as Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania, with availability in a total of 184 markets.

Market action

A concise summary of the latest filing, transaction, or market-moving item.

Spotify Technology S.A. executive Alex Norström reported changes in his holdings of Spotify ordinary shares on July 6, 2026, in a Form 4 filed July 8. The filing reflects transactions in Spotify ordinary shares by Norström, including an acquisition of 5,436 shares at $151.25 per share and subsequent market sales made under a prearranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plan adopted on December 11, 2025. The reported activity included sales of Spotify ordinary shares at weighted-average prices, including 1,224 shares sold at $480.3751 per share and 1,409 shares sold at $481.2312 per share. The filing notes that the sale prices were reported as weighted averages, with individual transactions occurring across specified price ranges. One group of shares was sold between $476.00 and $476.96, another between $477.08 and $477.67, another between $478.04 and $478.72, and another between $480.00 and $480.88. As is typical for Form 4 filings, Norström undertook to provide detailed per-price transaction information upon request. The filing also includes an explanatory note that a fractional amount shown in the report resulted from the computational treatment of restricted stock units vesting and tax withholding. Spotify does not issue fractional ordinary shares, so the fractional figure reflects calculation mechanics rather than the delivery of a fractional share. Because the transactions were made pursuant to a Rule 10b5-1 plan, the reported sales appear to have been planned in advance rather than initiated as discretionary open-market trades at the time of sale. Such plans allow insiders to schedule future trades under predetermined conditions, helping address concerns about trading on material nonpublic information.
