Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corp. (Wabtec) reported a stronger second quarter and first half of 2026, highlighted by the closing of a major acquisition, record backlog, and continued demand across its Freight and Transit businesses. The company’s quarterly report covers the period ended June 30, 2026 and reflects the impact of acquisitions, higher locomotive deliveries, mining demand, and transit aftermarket activity. A central corporate action in the period was Wabtec’s acquisition of Dellner Couplers, a global supplier of highly engineered safety-critical train connection systems and services for passenger rail rolling stock. Wabtec had announced the definitive agreement in the first quarter of 2025, and the transaction closed on February 10, 2026, for approximately $1.053 billion. Dellner is now included in Wabtec’s Transit segment. The company also cited contributions from other recent acquisitions, including Inspection Technologies and Frauscher, particularly within the Freight segment. Wabtec said total multi-year backlog increased by $3.5 billion during the first six months of 2026, reaching a record $30.9 billion as of June 30, 2026. Significant Freight orders included a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar mining contract for drive systems and aftermarket parts; a $1.0 billion Australian order covering new locomotives, components, digital solutions and multi-year services; a $210 million U.S. locomotive modernization order; a $184 million Positive Train Control order; and a $52 million mining drive systems order in the Asia-Pacific region. The company also began executing its first EVO modernization build to support commercial rollout to the installed base. In Transit, key first-half orders totaled $109 million for brakes, couplers and platform doors. For the second quarter of 2026, Wabtec reported total net sales of $3.179 billion, up 17.5% from $2.706 billion in the same.
